At 6’4”, Satou may play the forward position, but she boasts the inspiring athleticism and ball skills often found in guards. A bold early entry in this year’s WNBA Draft, she was selected No. 2 overall by the Dallas Wings. Many, including legendary coach Geno Auriemma, argued publicly she was the most talented player in the Draft - and with her length and versatility, the most pro-ready.
Yet it’s her courage and preternatural awareness of the opportunity she has as an athlete to lead in important cultural conversations that have already set her apart.
Satou’s social media reflects an engagement in and around conversations of equality and opportunity and her actions, including a commitment to the Black Lives Matter and Say Her Name movements, a future in law school, and an Ambassador role with UNICEF, continue to provide us insight into a woman who is destined to lead.
